Seeing as we're coming up on November, I figured I'd ask what everyone's goals for the month are looking like.

Would it help if Worderlands runs something? Daily check-ins again, or something else? Or are you overwhelmed by other challenges and would prefer not to add another to the mix?

I've just finished creating the prompt table for September's writing challenge, and I'm already looking forward to seeing what you all come up with. XD

As a sneak peek of sorts, the prompt table has 30 prompts, one for each day. There are six themes (five prompts each) across the prompt table, as below:

- Settings
- Dialogue
- Actions
- Song lyrics
- Elements
- Senses

The prompts might not be quite as obvious as those themes suggest when you get to see them (or maybe they will be? you'll have to tell me next month), but hopefully that'll give you somewhat of an idea of what you can expect next month. Time to start thinking about what you want to write!

Meanwhile, the surprise 3-sentence story challenge is there if you want to dive into something right away, or if you want to read some of the amazing stories already submitted. A great way to awaken the muse and spark some inspiration ahead of next event. :)

Worderlands will be holding its next week-long challenge starting on 22 June - and this time, things will be a little different.

Instead of aiming for a word goal or working on a specific project, the challenge will be to write a 3-sentence story every day based on a provided prompt.

This will hopefully be a good way to spark some inspiration, get everyone focussing on the construction of every sentence, the way words work together, the impact that you can have using only a few words. So, when you go back to writing your other project/s, hopefully it will be with a refreshed perspective and renewed creativity to draw from.

Of course, if you like what the stories you write bring out, you'll be welcome (and very much encouraged) to continue the stories in a longer form - or add them into another WIP if they fit.

Look out for the first prompt on 22 June! :)

Hi all,

How've you been going the last few weeks/months?

I'm thinking about running another challenge on here soon - maybe towards the end of June. It will likely be another week-long event. Who's in?

And I was also wondering... Would anyone be interested in a book club where we focus on writing craft-related books (with the possibility of other books in the future)?

Thanks to everyone who participated in our first 700 to 7k challenge! I hope you got something great out of it, whether you wrote more words or just enjoyed the posts and questions. :)

I'd love to know what you think. Like with the feedback from the November 2024 challenge, feedback may be incorporated into future challenges.

On that note, I'm already thinking about what might be next for Worderlands...

Don't worry - there's no event to rush to get ready for just yet. But there might be another 700 to 7k (or some similar variation) in a few months. I'm also playing with a few other ideas, but I'll leave that for another post another time.

Hi all. How'd you find the daily(ish) check-ins in November?

And what would you like to see at this community moving forward?

I've had a few life obstacles that have been keeping me busy in the background (and even away from here for a few days), but I hope to spend more time building things up in the coming months. It just may not be in the form of a daily check in, unless this is something people would find useful?

I'm having a few issues with my current living situation and might not be able to post for a few days/weeks while sorting this out. Specifics are a little unclear right now.

Is anyone up for taking on the check-in posts just til the end of November (optional after that)?

Requirements:

For each post, there's a !check-in tag, and a naming convention to follow for subject lines. The rest is very casual, as you can probably see. I try to include a question for people to answer, or a prompt to check in. And that's about all you'd need to do.

This could shift towards a co-mod kind of situation at a later point.

Hey, welcome to Worderlands - a writing community for...well, writers.

I have a lot in mind for this community, but so as to not overdo things we'll be starting small and adding new things later on as I have the mental capacity (and maybe other staff too).

For the duration of November, there'll be check-in posts that you can jump in on and let the community know how your writing goals are going.

In addition to this, rather than having a word count challenge for the month, I'll post a prompt table on or before 1 November with prompts that you can incorporate into either your current WIPs or new stories. Use them in whatever way your muse takes you. :)

In the meantime, feel free to drop a comment with an introduction - and a bit about what you write.
