Signal boost-ish:
- Was also chatting about
betaplease and how it'd be nice if it had more critical mass. A little bit of a signal boost, I guess, for your fandom beta needs and/or if you're willing to beta yourself!

Word: Trypophobia
May. 27th, 2026 06:34 amWednesday's word is...
...trypophobia.
Trypophobia is a condition where individuals experience strong feelings of disgust, discomfort, or fear when seeing clusters of small holes or bumps, such as those found in honeycombs, lotus seed pods, sponges, or certain fruits like strawberries and papayas. While commonly referred to as a "fear of holes," most people with trypophobia primarily feel disgust rather than true fear. The term was first coined in 2005 on an online forum and combines the Greek words “trypa” (hole) and “phobos” (fear).

Fandom links
May. 26th, 2026 10:56 amThere's an interesting conversation going on at
meta_warehouse, mainly on fandom as consumerism with the discussion happening both as reactions in journal entries and in the comments on the comm. I wasn't too sure about the original article myself (a lot of "you are not enjoying things the right way" moments) so I didn't have any comment about it, but the conversation seems to have quickly moved on to what wasn't addressed in the article, and how terms like "fanon" have changed in recent years (like, basically there is less of a concept of fanon because of the way readers/watchers treat the original material and fan theories nowadays). I dunno, the thought got my brain juices engaged and that's always something I enjoy.
Coming across a link I wanted to share reminded me that I still have that not insignificant list of links from a while back that I now need to reread before I share... Gah!! Well. Let's get started with one!

otw_news_feed, OTW Guest Post: Camilo Díaz Pino. Okay, that was an absolute delight to reread, totally recommended especially if you're into Japanese media fandoms. From my not-useless-for-once notes: "I particularly enjoyed this 5 questions OTW guest post about 'fans' who don't necessarily consider themselves fans in the context of Asian media culture becoming a normal part of the culture in Latin America for decades, for example with the president of Chile having a favourite pokemon, or the story about leftist activist organisations recreating scene from Dragon Ball Z to encourage everyone to get together to recreate a 'spirit bomb' like Goku asked the people of earth to do (I actually don't remember/know that scene, but I find how the speaker described it in the post incredibly moving)." I agree with you, past self!

All of Agatha: the final cases
May. 25th, 2026 05:17 pmThis is the final entry in a series about my quest to read all of Agatha Christie's works in UK publication order. It was begun in January 2021 and ended in May 2026.
It's taken me five years but here I am: the final cases.
Postern of Fate [1973] This is the last Tommy & Tuppence, and unlike the other two, it was written near the time it was published. Tommy & Tuppence are an elderly couple now, living in a house with a past and some of the furnishings left behind have clues to a past case of espionage and murder and disappearances and unresolved questions. And their old gardener gets murdered because he knows too much. It wasn't so bad, but I might've thought that because I knew it was the last.
Curtain [1975] Like Sleeping Murder, Christie wrote this in the 1940's and put it in the vault. And I liked it. Of course, there are many cringe-worthy bits (Hastings has a daughter who would probably be diagnosed as on the autism spectrum now but of course is treated rather awfully). Nevertheless, I think it was a good end to Poirot. He goes back to Styles. Hastings is a dim dick as usual. But loyal and a good narrator.
Sleeping Murder [1976] This was written in the 1940's too and published the year Christie died. A young couple is drawn to a house in which the wife of the couple lived briefly as a child (and witnessed a murder in). Repressed memories come flooding back and soon Miss Marple's on the case and sorts it all out. Obsessive love. Lots of suspects. Solid.
And that's it. I did two collages. I am not really happy with them (I sort of went overboard with the pink flowers) but I was even less happy with the color scheme of the Curtain postcard so I decided to go back to Styles.

Music Monday - E
May. 25th, 2026 08:21 pmAnd today, the letter is E, so there's only a handful.
The Highwaymen brought together four of country music's best - Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson. This is one I play to remind myself it's not just me.
Emmylou Harris has one of those instantly recognisable voices. I think this was the first of her albums I bought.
Johnny Cash on his own, with a slow one.
And something a little livelier from Hoyt Axton.
Finally, a bit of guitar courtesy of Norman and Nancy Blake.
