Welcome in to those who've joined the challenge in the last few days. :)

Here's the 5th prompt. Have fun making words!

The challenge: Write a three-sentence story that involves the prompt and share it in the comments! The prompt doesn’t have to be used with the precise wording - just make sure it’s clear the prompt has inspired the piece.

There's no deadline on these stories, though sooner is better if you'd like others involved in the event to read and comment.

Day 5: Forgetting was never an option

Shattered bones and bruised skin remained all the fresher in her mind. She looked back upon herself, to tears unheeded…

Return the favor, she would indeed.

Not gonna lie, my mind went to some morbid places with this one—for better or worse; in any case, this came out way faster than the last couple…

“Super Smash Bros. Ultimate”, Luigi & Mario

“Mario, you’re hurt, a-a-and you’re expecting me to just forget it and let you hurt yourself more,” Luigi emphasized, having since switched to Italian in their conversation-turned-argument to keep it private (as if the other scant heroes around them couldn’t tell things had gotten heated).

Then Mario said another, “I’m fine,” not even looking at Luigi, and it was the final spark that made Luigi finally explode out in anger, “Why are you always like this?!”

That made Mario finally look at him, a shock to his eyes that swiftly settled back into frustration before he just flung his arms in the air and marched off—leaving Luigi to stew in his negative feelings as several pairs of eyes just stared at the aftermath.

Oh nooooo. :( Love the tension in this piece, I almost squirmed myself at the feeling of everyone else's eyes on Luigi.

I very specifically chose to forget her, so that she'd finally go away. Said it right to her ... general area, since, well, I never actually looked at her when I said it.

And now here I am, telling this idiot that - to save his life - he needs to remember her extra hard, when he never forgot her in the first place.

Remembrance - Johannes Cabal

To forget her was to give up, to abandon everything; his work, his life, his meaning, his— his love— and that would never be an option, not here, not now, not ever, no matter what the cost or who the casualty.

As Cabal looked upon her coffin— a tomb of glass, straight out of a fairytale, years developing, years perfecting— not even a soul as shriveld as his could suppress grief once more.

The necromancer collapsed at the foot of his lost love's resting place and wept.

I've never read the Johannes Cabal books, though they've been on my radar for years, but I've really enjoyed both this one and your piece from yesterday. Makes me think I should bump them up my TBR!

Oh, that is quite flattering! It is a great series in my opinion. If you're someone who enjoys incredibly dry humor, supernatural adventure stories, and loveable bastard protagonists, few pieces of media are doing it quite like Johannes Cabal. I'm glad that my little shorts have been enjoyable ^_^

She had been so young, not even in double-digits yet. The insults pierced her like thorns, lodging themselves in her heart and soul where they'd remain forever, ready to rear their heads when she couldn't sleep or any time she felt vulnerable.

Her mother can't fathom how something she said so long ago could still have an impact but the girl, now a woman, can't fathom how they could not.

The skeleton beyond the last remaining strands of black hair and the tattered green uniform would be unrecognizable to most, but it's easy for Benkei to recognize Musashi's corpse even as tears begin to blur his vision.

He isn't sure what's making him want to cry–The scent of death polluting the air or the question Kei asks without missing a beat, "Who the hell is that in there?!"

"Musashi Tomoe. Getter-3's main pilot, my best friend," And for a moment Benkei hesitates as his voice cracks, "The man who raised you before he left you to me."

No matter what they said, what they agreed in the cold light of day, Dean knew that forgetting his night with Hannah was never an option. How could he possibly forget the realisation of his heart's deepest desire, the knowledge of what her skin felt like against his, how she responded to his touch, how there was a certain spot just at the curve of her neck that made her gasp and shiver and tighten her grip on his arms?

No, Dean knew he would never be able to forget that night, but when Hannah stands at his door, telling him, "We need to talk," he knows, with bone deep clarity, that she won't either.

“We’re never going to speak of this again,” he starts, the words hushed in half a breath’s worth of space between them, “so just forget it ever happened, alright? Nobody needs to know, and nobody’s going to know.”

It’s a foolish thing to insist upon, and they both know it— the heat of that kind of passion is damn near impossible to forget.
