Loving the stories so far! Here's the second prompt.

The challenge: Write a three-sentence story that involves the prompt and share it in the comments! The prompt doesn’t have to be used with the precise wording - just make sure it’s clear the prompt has inspired the piece.

There's no deadline on these stories, though sooner is better if you'd like others involved in the event to read and comment.

Day 2: Exploring dark places

For every step further she made into the murk, the cold yet claimed another breath. Her bones had chilled brittle; her nerves had stilled numb…

Her soul, however, simmered with spite all the same.

I cooked this much up while vibing to Toby Fox’s appreciably eerie “GLACEIR”—which, dorky as it may be to do so, I can’t help but associate with my third favorite Pokémon of all time in turn (which I definitely have on the bucket list to do some creative justice someday)…

Chicago Med, Dean/Hannah

Hannah has been to some pretty dark places in her life - addiction, rehab, relapses, overdoses - but the most scared she's ever been is when she's holding her brand new baby daughter in her arms, about to bring her home.

All the demons she's tried to keep at bay rise up, whisper in her ear - she's not good enough, not strong enough, she's going to let this baby down, she doesn't know how to be a mother - and she tries to keep her breathing steady, under control, so as not to betray herself.

Then a hand lands on her shoulder, a soft voice at her ear, Dean's eyes gentle and understanding as he tells her, "Hey... we've got this," and there's such confidence in his tone, so much confidence in her that it's easy to believe him.

Luigi, although he had gotten better about it over the years, still wasn’t a big fan of ghosts—especially those that giggled and tried to get the drop on him in the dark! Despite his own apprehension in the spooky house, however, he knew that his brother probably wasn’t a fan of the dark rooms that they were going through either.

“I-I’m sure we’ll find a way out soon,” he tried to reassure Mario, who offered a grateful nod as Luigi stuck close to him (for both of their sakes!).

Getter Robo Armageddon, Benkei & Kei

Also this contains some spoilers from episodes 3 and 4 of Getter Robo Armageddon

It took some pulling from the combined efforts of Benkei and Kei to force the doors to Getter-3's cockpit open, dust and debris that covered the abandoned machine flew everywhere upon impact.

He needed, no, wanted to explain to her the inescapable significance of Getter-3, until something suddenly invaded his nostrils with a sweet, meaty vengeance.

Bile rising his eyes adjusted to the dark cockpit–Now filled with the skeletal remains of Musashi Tomoe, as if the past was giving him a hateful reminder.

The constructor nodded, quickly, eagerly, then set about drawing up the plans.

Kamen Rider Gotchard, Hotaro & Rinne & Sabimaru & Renge

Echoes of water emitted across the walls of the cave, as Hotaro the others continued to trek deeper and deeper within, Renge started to have her doubts if there was truly a chemy down in this cave.

She glanced nervously around the cave and kept watch for any potential ghosts, "Treasure boy, ya sure there's a chemy here?"

Before Hotaro could even answer, there was a cry that came from down the path ahead of them—it looks like there's only one way to find out!

Darkened Crypt - Johannes Cabal

Two hateful eyes glared up towards Cabal's position at the entrance of the tomb, accompanying a face gaunt from years of starvation, framed by dull, brown hair with pointed and inhuman teeth peeking their way past corpse-dry lips.

"You have some nerve coming back here after all this time," snarled the thing, creeping up moonlight-spilled stairs, "but you've always been a soulless wretch, haven't you, Johannes?"

"I have come to offer a proposition, brother," said Cabal in faux calm, the iron-shackle control of one who knew a singular error would result in gruesome consequence, "and if you can manage to behave, fulfillment of your terms might have you human again."

South Park - Karen McCormick & Kenny McCormick

“You’re not supposed to be here,” he says, voice low, rough in that way that Karen knows at this point is just as much emotion as it is deliberate masking of his natural sound– he’s angry, very angry.

She’s not surprised. He’s angry more often than not these days; it’s been a long time since her guardian angel has been gentle with her, and sneaking around abandoned buildings behind his back is, in some ways, a deliberate effort to court his wrath.
