700 to 7k: Day 1

Welcome to the first day of Worderlands' 700 to 7k challenge!

We'll be doing the same thing as November 2024 - daily check-ins - as everyone aims to write either 100 words or 1k words a day for the next 7 days.

I’m gonna be working towards 100 words a day at most—because a) both of the projects I’m in the process of drafting (hopefully in time to finish off for my birthday) are pretty small in scope, and b) I write pretty slowly besides, to the point I wonder if I’ll even manage that much lmao

As for those projects, the larger one is a Kemono Friends fic inspired in large part by Paru Itagaki as per (this guy’s readings of) BEASTARS and BEAST COMPLEX—and largely filtered through my own psychosexual curiosities/fantasies/hangups in turn (for which I apologize in advance). The smaller one is a Pokémon one-shot partially meant as a tie-in to the aforementioned, taking its own cues from an absolute banger of a shitpost (and intersection of my interests besides)…

That being said, I write in a broader sense to pass that torch of inspiration forward—for folks to take my material on their own terms, each textured mind forming its own impressions and interpretations through which the art expands and iterates and thrives…ideally speaking. It’s precisely to that end, in fact, that I didn’t mention any specifics such as characters or plotlines; I’d rather not give any room for my ‘authority’ (in a Barthesian sense) to assert itself in that regard.

In any case, I at least hope this next week bears fruit for the rest of y’all!

I'm in a pretty similar position with a) in your first para! And because I'm also doing more editing/finishing drafts than smashing through new stories atm, b) applies as well. XD

100 words a day seems feasible for me! I've been trying to get into the habit of having a little dedicated writing time before I go off to play video games or whatever, so I'm hoping this'll help hold me accountable 👍

I write mostly for joy and to share my ideas with others. As for my projects, I'm working on some fics for a ship week I'm hosting!

I've actually been procrastinating getting started today but I'm about to get on it! And I've been playing a lot of Two Point Campus mostly, Two Point Hospital is like my most played game on Steam but I've finally moved on to the sequel 😂

And it's honestly pretty niche ahaha, it's like a rapper RPF ship that I accidentally got very into but is slowly growing on AO3 so I figured I'd start a little event for it! The AO3 collection & info is here

Ooh, Two Point Campus. I've got Two Point Hospital at 128 hrs on Steam, but only 7.9 for TPC. I need to poke it more. I've enjoyed what I have played, but haven't found that thing that makes it really click for me, like with TPH. And then, of course, there is Two Point Museum, which I haven't even bought yet...though have in my cart, waiting... XD

Anyway, I'll stop rambling.

Hmm, that does sound niche! "babygravy week" is what to list it as on affiliates? :)

I'm just starting to get over a block so I'm not sure if it's reasonable to attempt to join a challenge, but for 7 days... maybe I can try :D Happy to cheer for other participants either way!! I'll stick to 100 words and be happy for anything over that. I'm writing of series of unconnected fanfics using hurt/comfort prompts to rekindle my writing at the moment :) Best of luck to everyone!

I'll be taking this one slow as well. This year, I've been focussing more on editing last year's words than writing much new stuff. Bit of housekeeping and the like.

Add me to the 100 words/day goal! Though I got 427 today! Yay! I usually don't write on Wednesdays or weekends, but I am going on a writing trip with my writer's group this weekend so as long as I get 100 words in on Wednesday I should be pretty sweet.

I'm working on book 3 in my series of novella-length retellings. This one is Alice in Wonderland. I was working on it for most of last year and somehow got absolutely nowhere, but I've made some changes and revamped the outline and I'm hoping I'll get to the end this time around.

I write mostly to entertain myself and others. Sometimes I approach slightly darker topics in my short fiction, but longer works tend to be pretty light-hearted.

Writing trip with writer's group sounds like fun. Kind of like a retreat?

Can you remind me what the first in that series is? Was it the one I have a hard copy of? I'm not entirely awake and am blanking on the title, but I can picture the images on it...lots of purple and black and such?

That's really interesting that your short fiction tends to have more darker themes than the long.

Yeah, essentially a writer's retreat. We were doing them annually for a bit but this is our first one since covid.

Operation: Sugarplum is the first one in this series, followed by Enchanted Sleep. The one you won the copy of is A More Complicated Fairytale. XD
